District Assembly 2017 – Immigrant Justice in the Borderlands, March 31, 2017 to April 2, 2017

This spring, the Pacific Southwest District is holding its first-ever “Justice” District Assembly, March 31-April 2, 2017. The Unitarian Universalist congregations in Southern Arizona, from Tucson to border, invite Unitarian Universalists to join them for a different kind of district assembly. This “Justice” District Assembly will focus on border and immigrant justice issues, which have become all the more pressing since the presidential election.

There will be an ingathering Friday night, at three different congregations. And on Saturday morning, attendees will spread across southern Arizona to participate in a variety of experiential activities, and explore the social, environmental and spiritual facets of immigration justice. These activities will be led by partner-organizations working on justice issues in the region, and include some cross-border activities. In the afternoon we will have time to reflect on our experiences. On Sunday morning, the weekend will be capped off with everyone gathering for a transformative worship service at the border wall, with worshipers on both sides of the wall.

But the experience doesn’t end there. As participants head back home, we will take back what we have learned and experienced, and use it to inspire justice work in our own communities.
