The Birthday of the World

Linda Fitzgerald, Worship Associate

In Jewish traditions, the world is turning one year older on September 16. When we are younger, birthdays are often a time of excitement and anticipation; when we are older, they often bring a sense of reflection and an opportunity to set intentions for the year to come.  What do birthdays mean to you in your stage of life, and how might we celebrate and honor those meanings in the life of the community we share?

Rev. Rebecca Benefiel Bijur is Emerson’s Affiliated Community Minister. She is raising three children with her husband in Santa Monica, CA, and works with St. Joseph Center in Venice to advance social and economic equity for people experiencing homelessness. Her birthday is August 11.
