November 20th is the twentieth anniversary of the first Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to raise awareness of violence committed against transgender and gender non-conforming people, and to publicly mourn and honor the lives of those who might otherwise be forgotten. Transgender Day of Remembrance follows Transgender Awareness Week (November 13-19), which helps raise the visibility of transgender and gender non-conforming people and address the issues the community faces.
