In the early Christian church, Sophia was understood to be the embodiment of divine wisdom, appearing in the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. For centuries she was often revered as a Goddess, one of the main aspects of God. But over time Sophia was deemphasized and became less and less known. Over the past few decades, many feminist thea/ologians have reclaimed her, and this Sunday we honor the wisdom of the divine feminine.
The Emerson Choir will sing “For the Beauty of the Earth” by John Rutter.
