The Emerson Social Action Alliance
Making a difference in our community and in the world
What We Do
The
ESAA was the driving force behind the Jordan Street Interfaith Potluck
that brought together Emerson with local neighbors, the Sikh Temple, the
Methodist Church, the Senior Center and the Women’s
Club of Canoga Park for fellowship and good food.
Neighborhood children learn art techniques at free art classes conceived
and implemented by the Emerson Social Action Alliance.
- The Adopt- a-Social-Worker Program works with a local LA County social
worker to provide birthday and Christmas gifts for children on her caseload.
We also collect clothing and household items for the families.

- We helped in voter registration campaigns during the recent presidential
election.
- The ESAA has organized public forums / speakers / programs at EUUC on
several different topics. Also letter-writing campaigns to legislators,
and an educational photo exhibit on Darfur in the Sudan.
- The ESAA recommends charities
to share the EUUC worship service cash
donations. Recent recipients included
the Band Department at Canoga Park High, the Youth Art Project, Children
of the Night, and the Tattoo Removal Project.
- We collected food and diapers for LA Hotel Workers during their work
stoppage and donated money to Clergy and Laity United.
- The
ESAA walked the picket lines with the striking grocery workers.
- The
ESAA supported the Canoga Park Health and Safety Fair at Lanark Park
with funds and volunteers.

- The ESAA organized fundraising to provide vests, safety cones, and
other equipment so parents at Canoga Park Elementary School could act
as Safety Valets at dangerous student pickup and drop off times.
- We joined with the Valley Interfaith Network for Peace & Justice
to hold peace vigils in the West Valley.
