Get Involved
Serving on a church committee is a fulfilling and useful way to share talents and energy with the Emerson community, as well as a great way to get to know more people. To get involved in any of these committees, please or call the office for more information, or speak to the congregational president.
Committees
BUILDINGS & GROUNDS
Maintains the church buildings and surrounding grounds. Volunteer opportunities: gardening, repair, cleaning. Gardening crew meets on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month at 9:00am in the Church parking lot.
CONGREGATIONAL AFFAIRS
Coordinates all of Emerson's social activities, including church dinners and the after-service coffee hour. Volunteer opportunities: providing snacks for coffee hour, clean up.
DENOMINATIONAL AFFAIRS
Keeps Emerson apprised of news and events from the Unitarian Universalist Association, the Pacific Southwest District of the UUA, local UU Service Committee and the Valley Cluster of UU churches.
FINANCE
Deals with all aspects of the church's finances. Oversees Canvass Committee. Committee meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm in the Pavilion.
FUNDRAISING
Oversees all fundraising activities, including the Scrip table, concerts and our largest fundraising event, our annual Service Auction.
INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION
Publishes the church newsletter; staffs the church office; handles publicity. Oversees InfoTech sub-committee, which maintains the church website and office equipment. Volunteer opportunities: mailings, misc. office tasks. InfoTech committee meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 12:15pm in the Pavilion. The LEAVES mailings are bi-weekly (check calendar) at 10:30am in the Pavilion.
MEMBERSHIP
Oversees church membership, welcome desk, greeters, visitor follow-up and outreach programs. Volunteer opportunities: greeters.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION/EXPLORATION
Plans and implements all adult and children's religious education programs, including selecting curricula, recruiting teachers/facilitators and staffing the nursery. Volunteer opportunities: teaching assistant, nursery assistant, facilitator, in gathering assistant. The adult R.E. committee meets on the 1sr Wednesday of each month at 10:00am in the pavilion, and the children's R.E. committee meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month at Noon in Room 4.
WORSHIP
Deals with all aspects of the Sunday worship service, including recruiting
ushers, training pulpit hosts and providing worship services in the
minister's absence. Volunteer opportunities: ushers, pulpit hosts, providing
flowers. The committee meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:30pm
in the Pavilion.
