On Sunday, June 5, 2016, Emerson UU Church held a bridging ceremony to honor our graduating seniors, Olivia Calvi, Dustin Washburne, and Teddy Wada. (Teddy wasn’t able to be present for the ceremony.)
The Bridging Ceremony is the culminating event in the Religious Education program at Emerson. Led by Emmalinda MacLean, Religious Education Director, the ceremony included heart-felt statements by Patrice Washburne (Dustin’s mother) as well as Barbara Calvi and Brian Nelson (Olivia’s parents). Then both Dustin and Olivia spoke about their memories of growing up in the RE program at Emerson, finally emerging as ADULTS.  Dustin and Olivia symbolically stepped across a blue velvet “bridge” as they passed from high schoolers to adults.
After the service, the entire congregation celebrated with beverages and a luscious cake.
We feel certain that our graduating seniors have received a firm foundation in their lives as a result of participating in the Religious Education program at Emerson UU Church and at Camp DeBenneville Pines. We wish them well now and throughout their lives.
